Galaxyneon - Western Digital is shipping its new Scorpio Blue 2.5-inch 7mm slim mobile hard drive with the lowest power consumption on the market, which is ideal for use on super slim notebooks and Ultrabooks. With advanced power management and algorithms to optimize the way the drive seeks data, the drive has a low power consumption.
The 7mm Scorpio Blue is available in 500GB and 320GB models. The drive use SATA 3Gbps interface and runs at 5400RPM with 8MB cache. It features WD’s ShockGuard technology with a a best-in-class 400Gs shock tolerance to protect the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. Also, WD’s SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off, ensuring the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
Comes in 7mm form factor, the new Scorpio Blue is also compatible with standard 9.5mm drive slots. The 500GB model (WD5000LPVT) is priced at $99.99 and the 320 GB model (WD3200LPVT) at $79.99.
